PLC & HMI Automation of the Bottomer-2 Bag Rejection Process for Avanta Holdings, Ashti

Problem Statement:
The existing Bottomer-2 machine ran on a conventional contactor-based panel with a CCR-based bag acceptance/rejection system that was highly dependent on manual intervention, requiring approximately 8–9 manpower near the machine.
Our Solution:
Upgraded the machine with a customized ABB PM573-ETH PLC and ABB CP607 HMI-based automation solution, with distance-based automatic bag rejection logic and HMI-based parameter setting (bag length, width, tolerance) — retaining the existing mechanical machine while automating the acceptance/rejection process.
Results Delivered:
Converted a manual, manpower-dependent rejection process into an automated, PLC-controlled system — reducing manpower dependency, improving rejection consistency through distance-based logic, and giving the operator flexible parameter control through the HMI.
