Service & Field Engineer

Job Brief

The Service & Field Engineer will be responsible for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and customer support for industrial automation systems. The engineer will work under the Head of Service Department and will support site service, AMC, breakdown and project activities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Installation, testing and commissioning of VFDs, control panels and automation systems at customer sites.
  • Troubleshooting of VFD/drive faults, motor control, control wiring and electrical/automation-related problems.
  • Parameter setting, programming and basic optimization of ABB drives and other makes as required.
  • Work on PLC, HMI/SCADA, digital/analog I/O and industrial instrumentation as per project/service requirement.
  • Troubleshooting and commissioning of industrial communication such as RS485, Modbus RTU/TCP and Ethernet.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance (PM), breakdown service and AMC activities.
  • Verify power/control wiring, termination, earthing and interlocks before energization and commissioning.
  • Attend customer complaints/service tickets, identify root cause and provide timely technical resolution.
  • Prepare service/commissioning reports and submit site observations, readings and recommendations after each visit.
  • Coordinate with the Service Department, Sales/Projects and customer representatives for smooth execution.
  • Maintain service tools, testing instruments, required spares and technical documents.
  • Follow company safety procedures and site safety requirements during all field activities.
  • Provide customer guidance/training during commissioning and handover.

Technical Skills Required

  • Good knowledge of industrial electrical systems, motors, control panels and VFDs.
  • Working knowledge of ABB drives such as ACS580, ACS880, ACS550/ACS355/ACS380 or similar drives.
  • Basic knowledge of PLC, HMI/SCADA, sensors, transmitters, encoders and industrial control systems.
  • Ability to read electrical/control drawings and identify wiring and termination issues.
  • Knowledge of multimeter, clamp meter, insulation tester and other electrical service instruments.
  • Ability to understand drive fault codes, parameters and perform systematic troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of industrial networking and communication diagnostics.

  • Maintain tools, instruments and service spares in proper working condition.
  • Maintain positive customer feedback through professional service and communication.
